The 6th Congress of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine was organized by the Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine of Northern Greece in Halkidiki at the ATHOS PALACE  hotel, in September 2000.
A total of 540 participants were registered, of whom 355 were specialists, 115 were residents and 76 were nurses. A big number of participants were present in the congress halls during the lectures, the Round Tables, and especially in the 3 Satellite Symposiums of the companies. Almost complete was the participation in the 6 symposiums with specialized themes and an audience limitation (50 people) under presubscription.

Seventeen pharmaceuticals and medical product companies participate and sponsored the congress.  The main sponsor of the congress was ABBOTT LABORATORIES, big sponsors were ARROW HELLAS, ASTRA-ZENECA, GLAXO_WELCOME and other contributors were AKZO NOBEL, BAYER HELLAS ABEE, BAXTER HELLAS, BECTON DICKINSON GREECE SA, BIOKOSMOS EPE, GEROLYMATOS PN AEBE, ELECTROMEDICAL AEBE, EPSILON+EPSILON EPE, IAKOBIDIS MS HELLAS EPE, INTERMEDIC E. TZANIDAKIS, JANSSEN CILAG AEBE, MEDITEC ABEE, PARK DAVIS-WARNER LAMBERT AE.

The participants enjoyed their evening of 28th September in the get together party in the place by the pool, and also on 29th September in the dinner gala at the beach of the hotel.

A hundred abstracts were submitted, of which the Scientific Committee chose 87 to present in the form of oral presentation. Thirteen submitions were rejected for several reasons. Out of the 87 abstracts to be presented, the 10 higher graded were chosen for presentation and award in a special session. Eight of the rest 77 abstracts were not presented because of the absence of the presenters.

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the organizing committee it is my great honor and pleasure to invite you in the 7th Congress of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine at the Athos Palace Hotel in Kalithea-Kassandra-Chalkidiki from September 6th to 10th, 2002.

Continuing the tradition of our previous congresses a comprehensive scientific programme of Refresher Course Lectures, Symposia, Round Table Discussions and Presentations concerning items of interest to anaesthesiologists and other specialists will be offered.

It is our principal objective, the Congress to provide a scientific forum promoting exchange of information and fruitful discussion between delegates and distinguished Greek and International experts.

Also part of the Congress will be devoted to the presentation of papers in a way facilitating constructive reviewing, in order to evaluate the scientific quality of the research presented and to improve analysis and interpretation of results. For this purpose authors are encouraged to prepare and submit their work according to the deadline for submission, which will be shortly announced.

Apart from the scientific programme and the social events arranged we do believe, that the natural beauty of Chalkidiki along with the possibility for recreational activities in the middle of September, will be a special motive for your participation in the Congress.
