WORKSHOPS / FIELD TRIPS
Cultural Workshops
Greece sits at the crossroads of East and West and has developed a vital, unique culture that reflects its tumultuous history.
To give all our participants access and insight into traditional Greek life we offer a series of cultural workshops.
These informal meetings enrich the total experience by fostering awareness and understanding in an unfamiliar culture and affecting themes addressed in student artwork.
The workshops explore: Greek history & language, traditional roles of women and men in rural Greek society, folklore, religion, music, dance and the continuity of Hellenic culture from Ancient Greece to the present day.
Field Trips
Our Programs begin with a 2 day visit to Athens where participants stay in the historic Plaka district at the foot of the Acropolis. Background information is provided for tours of the Acropolis, surrounding sites, and the National Archaeological Museum. The group attends a performance of traditional dance and music in a open air theater, enjoys dining in lively tavernas, and is free to wander through the picturesque streets of this legendary city.
During the second week we travel to the mainland to visit Meteora, a community of medieval monasteries built atop sheer pillars of stone. We stay overnight in the charming village of Metsovo, where traditions of shepherd culture and crafts continue to thrive, high in the mountains of central Greece.
