Programs Note

2001 marks the 13th year that we have offered our exclusive fine arts programs in Greece. All our programs are designed to challenge participants to do their best, most personal work, using the stimulating visual surroundings and cultural differences as source material for self exploration through the media of choice.

Painting - "Image Collecting, Experience Documenting, and Art Making in a Greek Island Village"

The title of this course reflects the depth, involvement and freedom we encourage in our participants. Much more than a "how-to" course, Artists are prompted to work in a variety of media, and, if they choose, to go beyond tradtional methods in approach and organization. All are invited to work from visual stimulation as well as their emotional, intellectual, and sensory experience as amplified by living in a new, exciting environment.

The Painting Program consists of daily meetings and regular group critiques.and introductory workshops in papermaking, monoprinting and simple relief printing.

There is ample time for individual exploration and students are urged to work independently outside of class. Sketchbook activities are especially helpful for travel and excursions. Expeditions to various parts of the island provide students with opportunities to use the sites of mountain chapels, remote monasteries, and the breath taking landscape for inspiration.

.

THESE PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO ARTISTS OF ANY LEVEL -HOWEVER- KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC PAINTING TECHNIQUE IS REQUIRED FOR THE PAINTING PROGRAM. Contact the instructor for specific requirements.
