ISLAND CENTER FACULTYPaintingTom Dempsey -is the Director of the Island Center for the Arts and Visiting Professor of Painting and Foundation Studies at Massachusetts College of Art, since 1984. He has received Grants for Public Art Projects in Massachusetts and is committed to building positive and open creative environments for artists. Tom brings to the Island Center 12 years experieence as Program Director and faculty as well as an encouraging and challenging teaching style.
PhotographySteve Tourlentes is the Photography Program Director at the Island Center, a Guggenheim Fellow, and Visiting Professor at Massachusetts College of Art. Steve's photographs are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art , NY, and have been published in BLIND SPOT Magazine. He also is a two time recipient of the MacDowell Residency Fellowships.
Greek CultureIsabel Dempsey serves as co-director of the Island center and directs the Cultural Workshops. A painter and Illustrator, her work has appeared in all major publications in the Boston area. She has completed extensive study in Modern Greek at Harvard University and was awarded a Maliotis Foundation grant to document changes in the traditional role of women in rural Greek society.
Artist's BooksPeter Madden is a nationally renown innovator in the field of "Artist's Books". He teaches at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, and has conducted workshops throughout the United States. His method of working and developing ideas is especially suited to work in Skopelos as Peter is stimulated by the possibilities of new surroundings and unfamiliar materials.
