Rich in both myths and history, the museum has developed into one of the richest and best organised folk art museums in Greece. It contains three separate collections:
I. Items of everyday life, representing Skyrian history and civilisation.
II. Representing the traditional economy of Greece there are over 3000 objects and tools. Many of these items are still in storage awaiting suitable presentation at the museum.
III. Rare publications and historical documents dating back to the Byzantine era and the time of the Turkish occupation, rare publications from the 16th century and onwards together with both published and private documents relating to the time of the War of Independence.
