about Crete & Malia

[geography]

The apartments are located on the island of Crete, Greece. The town is called Malia and is on the north side of the island, about 35km outside the capital Heraklion.

For the exact location you can have a look on the map below.

[location]

Situated at the fringes of old Malia, with its narrow streets, romantic tavernas and bars the Melissa Apartments offers a good standard of accomodation.

Only 200m away is the main road and on the other side is the modern town with its clubs, bars, shops and restaurants (see map).

It is the ideal choice for friends, couples and families who want to be close both to the quiet old town as well as to the busy new!

about the apartments

[history]

This is an image of the Golden Bee which was found at the Malia Palace ruins about 3km outside the nowaday centre of the town.

It depicts two bees making honey and is considered to have been a necklace of the queen. It is one of the most important findings from the whole Minoan civilization, more than 3.500 years ago.

It is the symbol for Malia and is on display at the archaeological museum in Heraklion.

The word for bee in greek is "melissa" so that is how the apartments got their name.

[about]

The apartments were built in 1987 and the pool area in 1992. They were renovated in 2006. They are very popular with repeat clients, due to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the family and staff and for the spacious and clean rooms.
