OVERFLY Guide for GREEK skies observation
Frequency allocation. Note that number decode is not the official sectors allocations codes. Usage source is coming out through hours of monitoring. The allocation is a result of last years (approximately) usage and of course you may see changes but not a lot. For i.e. there is no way 125.20 to cover area 1 because the antennas of those transmitters are in a South Aegean island causing a coverage problem. Main reason for frequency changes are interferences from radio music stations. Please e-mail possible corrections or oadditional information. Remember : if you are monitoring VHF airband in Greece you can find the registrations of the aircraft you listen of see at ACARS section of that website.
| AREA 1A-1B : 131.325 or 125.90 during winter period.
During high season area 1 may spited to A and B with the
following possible scenarios. 1A : 133.87 or 134.15 and
area 2 125.90 or 131.325. How ever under heavy charter
traffic especially during summer area 1 has been spitted
into four sectors 1A Upper (above FL300) 1A Low (below
FL300) and same for 1B. That helps frequency capacity
because a lot of clearances transmitted to arriving
writhing Greece airports flights. That scenario using
mostly the following frequency allocation. 1A Upper and
1A Low sharing 133.87 and 134.15. 1B Upper and 1B low
sharing 125.90 and 131.32. AREA 2 : 129.55, 124.90, 132.80, 128.07, 123.77. First frequencies are mostly used last year. AREA 2 is possible to use Upper and low sector in order to split the heavy descending traffic to Athens airport especially during midday. Under that scenario sharing of the above frequencies observed. AREA 2 during low season may merged with area 3 but only to of them can be merged. AREA 3 : 132.80, 128.07, 124.90. That sector has a lot of traffic bound from METRU-PLH-LORNO and BELIX-METRU. Also during summer season a lot of charter flights departing from Heraklion and Souda using LORNO as exit point. Mainly is using 132.80. No split reported on that frequency in any time. But during silent winter hours may merged with 4A. AREA 4 (4A&4B): 125.20, 124.47, 126.12. There is no Upper and Low split on that sector. At least we never observe it. During low season last years all blue area use same frequency. Lately the area no matter what period is spitted to 4A with 125.20 as standard and 4B sharing 124.47 and 126.12 |
